The trend to shorter joints continues to push for the development of tooling able to produce a good quality joint.  Each inch of salvaged wood adds up quickly.  To illustrate, let's figure that you are considering changing from your current 3/8" long joint to a 1/4" joint. We will figure based on 20 joints per minute or 1200 per hour.

Example 1

  • Joints per hour multiplied by Savings per joint divided by 12
  • (1200 x .125 / 12)= 25 (.125 Is the difference between 3/8" joint and 1/4" joint)

The answer is 25 feet of stock per hour or 200 feet per eight hour shift.  These figures are somewhat conservative, however the amount of material savings adds up quickly.  If you would like assistance in evaluating whether a shorter joint may be of benefit, please give us a call. In addition to the 1/4" joint discussed above, we also offer much shorter joints for certain applications.
